Free Universal ATS Resume Template
Neutral ATS resume for many experience levels
Universal ATS Resume is a general-purpose, single-column layout with familiar sections and moderate spacing. It is deliberately not tied to any job title or industry. You can use the same framework for a focused early-career application or a more experienced professional profile by changing the content emphasis.

How to customize the Universal ATS Resume template
Keep the design neutral, but adjust the actual sections and evidence to your experience instead of treating the sample as fixed.
Choose the sections your background needs
A general template should not force identical resumes on applicants with different experience. Early-career candidates may benefit from Projects or relevant Training after education, while experienced professionals may need a concise Summary and stronger Work Experience section. Include a certification section only if it matters to the role. Delete empty headings rather than leaving placeholder lines. The neutral styling lets you make those edits without introducing a new visual system every time.
Create an accurate summary
If you include a summary, use a few lines that connect your strongest evidence to the position you want. Avoid vague statements such as “seeking a challenging opportunity.” Name your work area, useful skills, and one or two genuine strengths. If you are changing careers, the summary can frame transferable experience, but the rest of the resume must still substantiate it. A short, specific summary is more valuable than a long paragraph that simply repeats the skills list.
Manage space through relevance
Moderate spacing keeps the page comfortable to read, but it is easy to fill a universal template with unnecessary detail. Focus on achievements with clear scope, relevant tools, or tangible results. Summarize responsibilities that every person in the same role would be expected to perform. If the document spans two pages, ensure page two contains enough substance to justify its space and does not begin with a stranded heading.
Verify every final version
A flexible design often gets reused for several roles. Save each targeted version with a clear filename and double-check that outdated employer names, project descriptions, or contact links did not carry over. Export in the requested format, then copy the text to verify reading order. The same template can serve multiple applications, but the content should reflect the actual job requirements each time. Do not assume the layout alone makes the application relevant.
